Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the most common questions I get about working together.

  • I am located in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Therapy Space office address is:

    8215 S. Eastern Ave ~ Las Vegas, NV 89123

  • The Therapy Space does not currently accept insurance. However, we are happy to provide an itemized receipt with appropriate billing information if you wish to file for any out-of-network insurance benefits.

  • We will spend about 90 minutes together discussing the details of your current concerns and your mental health history, reviewing your lifestyle, and developing a plan to help you feel better.

We will collaboratively decide upon a treatment plan, and I’ll answer any questions you may have.

  • Clients who fail to show up for their scheduled appointments or cancel with less than 24 hours' notice will be charged the full session fee.

Clients with three or more instances of missed appointments or late cancellations may be discharged from the practice.

  • Therapy, also known as psychotherapy or counseling, is a process in which a trained mental health professional works with an individual or group to help them understand and manage their mental health concerns, improve their relationships, and enhance their overall well-being. The specific techniques and strategies used in therapy can vary depending on the type of therapy and the individual's needs.

  • Signs that you might benefit from therapy include feeling overwhelmed, experiencing persistent negative thoughts or feelings, struggling with relationships or communication, feeling stuck or unsure about how to move forward in your life, or experiencing significant changes or stressors in your life.

  • The length and frequency of therapy can vary depending on the individual's needs and goals. Some people may benefit from short-term therapy that lasts a few sessions, while others may benefit from longer-term therapy that lasts several months or more. The frequency of sessions can also vary, with some people attending weekly sessions and others attending less frequently. Ultimately, I value the importance of ongoing care and communication.

We’ll discuss the timing of your next visit at the end of each appointment, and your input is welcome in that discussion.

  • There are many different types of therapy available, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, humanistic therapy, and many others. The type of therapy that is right for you will depend on your specific needs and goals.

It's not just about playing in the sand; it's about finding a unique path to understanding and connection. So, if you're seeking a therapy approach that embraces creativity and speaks to your inner self, Sandtray Therapy might be your jam! :)

  • Common myths about therapy and mental health include the idea that seeking help is a sign of weakness, that therapy is only for people with severe mental health issues, or that therapy is not effective. In reality, therapy can be helpful for a wide range of people and mental health concerns, and seeking help is a sign of strength and courage.

  • Signs that your child may benefit from therapy include changes in behavior, difficulty managing emotions, declining academic performance, withdrawal from social activities, persistent anxiety or sadness, trauma, difficulty adjusting to life changes, or disruptions in family dynamics.

Recognizing these signs is a big step towards helping your child feel better. Let's have a chat and figure out how I could help.

  • Child therapy can assist with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, behavioral problems, trauma, grief and loss, social difficulties, family conflicts, self-esteem issues, and emotional regulation. It provides a safe and supportive space for children to express their thoughts and feelings, develop coping skills, and build resilience.

  • Child therapy is tailored to the unique needs and developmental stages of children. Therapists use play therapy, art therapy, storytelling, and other age-appropriate techniques to engage children in the therapeutic process. Child therapists are trained to communicate with children effectively and create a safe and nurturing environment.

  • You can prepare your child for therapy by explaining that it is a safe and supportive space where they can talk about their feelings and experiences. Emphasize that the therapist is there to help and that they can ask questions or express any concerns. Reassure your child that therapy is not a punishment and that it can be beneficial for them.

  • The duration of child therapy varies based on the child's needs, goals, and progress. Some short-term therapies may last a few months, while others may involve longer-term treatment. Progress will be assessed regularly, and we’ll discuss the anticipated length of therapy.

  • Therapy can significantly enhance your child's daily life by equipping them with essential coping skills, improving their ability to regulate emotions, enhancing communication with peers and adults, and nurturing a strong sense of self-esteem and resilience. These improvements are tailored to address your child's specific needs and goals, ensuring that therapy has a meaningful and positive impact on their everyday experiences. As your child's therapist, I am committed to maintaining open communication with you to discuss progress and ensure that therapy continues to support growth and well-being in their daily life.

What is Play Therapy?

Play Therapy, a modality of child therapy, is a powerful tool for addressing cognitive, behavioral, and emotional challenges. Licensed professionals use play therapeutically to help clients better process their experiences and develop more effective strategies for managing their worlds.

Would My Child Benefit from Play Therapy?

Deciding whether or not to take your child to a play therapist for child and/or family therapy is a personal choice.  Children are seen in therapy for an array of reasons, such as behavioral issues (caused by bullying, grief and loss, divorce and abandonment, physical and sexual abuse, and crisis and trauma) and mental health disorders (ie: anxiety, depression, attention deficit/hyperactivity or ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, academic and social impairment, physical and learning disabilities, and conduct disorders).

Research suggests Play Therapy is an effective mental health approach, regardless of age, gender, or the nature of the problem, and works best when a parent, family member, or caretaker is actively involved in the treatment process. (Association for Play Therapy, 2023)
